The impending arrival of their first baby prompted Andrew and Kathryn McCafferty to make the move from a flat in Aberdeen city centre to a new family home in Banchory, with extra space, their own garden and woodland walks on their doorstep.
Kathryn (39), an occupational therapy manager, and Andrew (41), who works as a tech lead, chose Banchory for its child-friendly environment and outdoor lifestyle.
“Banchory is small town living in the countryside with everything you need so that you don’t need to go back to Aberdeen all the time,” said Andrew. “The schools have a great reputation and as we are about to have our first child, this had a lot of bearing. Banchory seems like the ideal place to live and for children to grow up in.”
As the couple searched for their perfect property, they drove past Bancon Homes’ Oaklands site, a select development of 38 three-bedroom semi-detached homes as well as three and four-bedroom detached properties – half of which sold within the first eight months of the site’s launch.
Impressed by its location, close to town but with award-winning schools, shops and countryside all on its doorstep, Kathryn and Andrew viewed Bancon Homes’ show home – and reserved a Louisville style villa in Oaklands the same day.
“We weren’t necessarily looking to buy a new build to start off with, however after we saw what you could get and how you can customise the place to your tastes, we decided to go for it,” said Andrew.
Each of the house types features designer kitchens, oak veneer fitted wardrobes, the latest eco-friendly and cost saving Biomass district heating system, landscaped gardens and a high-quality finish, which was a key deciding factor for the McCaffertys.
“The house in Oaklands was a perfect match for what we were looking for. It has an open plan kitchen/dining area, which was something Kathryn was very keen on and many of the other houses we looked at in Banchory didn’t have this.
“The fact that we now have our own garden is also very exciting as our flat only had communal grounds.”
Andrew and Kathryn moved into their new home just a week before Christmas, and apart from the packing and planning, they completed the move in one day.
“Moving day itself was a piece of cake,” added Andrew. “Thankfully Bancon got all the work completed and we could move into our new home just in time for Christmas. The removal people arrived at 8am, we were unpacking in Banchory by 11am and done by 3pm!”
With the move complete and a new baby on the way, the couple can now enjoy their new home, which features an open-plan kitchen and living area with a separate lounge to unwind and relax.
The property has ample space with a garage, utility room and four bedrooms, two of which are en-suite, providing a great space for this young family to grow.
“Having all the space takes a bit of getting used to and stopping Kathryn from buying things for the new house has become a full-time occupation,” joked Andrew.
“We’re really looking forward to a more outdoor lifestyle with our new arrival as the weather gets better.”
